The restaurant at Habitat Curacao turned out to be better than we had expected. The resort gets some rather crap reviews on Tripadvisor, so we were apprehensive when we showed up to eat the first night, but we had a $140 credit through a promotion with the Curacao Tourism Board and were hungry after our day of travelling. Me especially since I didn't eat that crap salad from Chili's and had only guzzled liquids all day.The view from the restaurant was nice. It overlooked the water, and if one could ignore the army of invisible mosquitoes looking to dive bomb your precious epidermis, it was all rather pleasant actually. The resort is populated primarily with divers, and during the day it's very quiet as everyone is below sea level looking at parrot fish and other assorted marine life.
The Sunday night that we arrived there was a local band playing complete with steel drums and a lot of residents stopped by the bar to enjoy the music and down a cold one.We focused on the barbecue that the restaurant serves on Sundays. The consultant got ribs because he loves meat from a four-legged beast.
The fake pescatarian true to form ordered fish, but you can see her true love lies with the corn.
I went with the grilled chicken leg, which was remarkably flavorful, but the blessed rice in the corner was even better. Towards the end I was literally eating it with my finger tips. It's funny how a plate of rice is often the cheapest and most abundant item on the menu, but when done well it's utterly addictive and I'd pay for some plates of seasoned rice or rice and beans than I would for many a bad plate of sushi.Sadly however, I was still sick, so I could barely enjoy the delicious food. It's one of the crappier things in life to have to sit before a plate of good food and know you can't heartily down it. A couple more thousand times of taking the Lord's name in vain, and maybe I'll end up in some terrible purgatory where my seasonal battle with bronchitis becomes a perpetual state of existence, and before me will pass plates and plates of the most delicate and delicious fare.
