We didn't get very far "wandering" under the pretense of giving the gullets a rest, when we peered into this frozen-dessert bin outside Kabir's Bakery.
Little did I know, today would be my first taste of a Malai Kulfi Popsicle.
Typically served more as an ice cream, the primary ingredients are cream, sugar and cardamom. It was wonderful. Luxuriously creamy, the cardamom lent a lovely aromatic and savory note to each bite. I wish I could capture for you how wonderful it was to be walking down the street sharing a Popsicle with two dear friends on a beautiful New York day, seeing the sunlight flit through the leafy trees and hearing the multi-lingual voices of Jackson Heights bounce and echo around the street bustling with vendors, hyperactive children, strolling parents, and sharp-eyed relatives, all while eating what to the community was just a commonplace sweet, but to me was this rich, delicious and utterly new delight.

Yum!! I always want to buy a kulfi pop, but am always too full to do so (after eating at one neighborhood buffet or other) and sadly, they don't travel well to Brooklyn. Bummer. Cream, huh. I thought it was ice milk. Rats.
Well at least a generic kulfi recipe I pulled up on the web said cream. I think it'd be great fun to make a batch of kulfi flavored ice cream.
